I've having an issue I see happens to many people, but so far I haven't seen anything that matches my exact situation and I can't figure out how to fix it.

I bought my S3 from T-Mobile but recently switched to AT&T. After unlocking the phone (in the AT&T store) the phone started this odd behavior where it would shut off by itself even when it was charged. It happened 20 mins after unlocking the phone and has happened since then maybe a couple times a day. AT&T says it's a coincidence that this only started happening after the unlock procedure....

Last night it shut off by itself again, but when I tried to turn it on, I couldn't get past the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo and that's where I am now. I know very little techy stuff, so I'm having trouble following some of the threads here. Here's what I know:

- Phone will NOT enter recovery mode (volume up, power, home)
- It WILL enter download/Odin mode (volume down, power, home)
- The phone model is SGH-T999
- I have Kies on my computer but when I plug my phone in, Kies says "Connecting" forever -- it never actually connects
- In case I need it, I already downloaded the correct (I presume) firmware from that Samsung site
- I'm on a Mac, so I can't use Odin

Any help in making my phone work AT ALL will be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome to the forums!

That's a good one; if you believe that, I have some swamp land in Florida for sale!
Ok, TBH I don't know what's involved in unlocking the phone for a different carrier, but I don't believe in coincidences like that.

Disregard that message. Try performing a Firmware update and initialisation (from the Tools menu) anyway and see if it's successful.

If Kies doesn't work then you'll have to come over to the dark side and find someone you know that has a Windows-based computer - I'm not aware of any tools for the Mac that you can use.
