Can't decide -- Essential, G6+ or 5T?

I've been a Windows Phone holdout and am finally taking the plunge. I'm not a "needs the latest and greatest phone" person (clearly, given my longevity with WP!), so I'm planning on keeping whatever I get for 2-3 years. I'm trying to decide whether to go with an older but highly rated LG G6+ (via Amazon), the Essential, or with the just-released 5T. Each can be had in the $450-500 range at the moment.

I ruled out the S8 simply because the fingerprint sensor is so horribly placed (I'm in a usability-based career).

Any pros/cons from any current owners would be appreciated. I'm reading through the phone-specific channels now.

Thanks!

I'd go 5T if it were me personally based on specs, price, reviews it's receiving and form factor.

I'm not a current owner, but the OnePlus would blow both Essential and G6+ in terms of performancr and speed.

The Essential Phone was an automatic pass for me because it's an LCD, not AMOLED. In place of the G6, maybe take a look at the V30. It's more money, but a really nice device. The biggest trade off you'll make going with the OnePlus is the camera. Everything else is absolutely top notch.

I have used all three, and I would, and have, picked the 5t. The G6 just felt really chunky to me, and the skin was visibly slow compared to the essential and pixel xl I had at the time. The essential is a pretty good phone all around, but I really like a larger screen. I do hope that Essential will continue with the updates, because it honestly gets better with every update. The LG V30, Pixel 2XL both have the same horrible screen issues, the Razer phone is pretty awesome, out of all of them, I would (and have) pick(ed) the OP5t. The OP5t beats the Essential in screen size and battery life. The Razer beats OP5t in battery life (depending on your screen settings) and the speakers on it are insane.

Have you made a decision yet, OP? Those are tough phones to choose from, indeed!

Looks like it will be the 5T! It won't be here for another week, but I'm looking forward to it. Today's Essential deal on Amazon was enticing but the extra cost for the 5T is OK, especially since I plan on using it for 2+ years.

Congratulations on your OnePlus 5T! And the extra money is totally worth it; especially if you'll be using it for 2+ years!

Good decision I think. Once you get it, take it to Best Buy and put it against the Essential and G6, you will be glad you got the 5t

I was going through this same comparison to replace my wife's Nexus 6. We ended up going with the the Essential because she got to touch it at Best Buy. There is no retailer to actually look at a OnePlus phone. She also had not heard of OnePlus before. We got in on the $399 Amazon deal for Cyber Monday. Little risk for that kind of $. It should arrive sometime next week.

That is a good choice too! Let us know how she likes it!

Yeah, it's sad that there is no way we can physically get our hands on a 5T before we buy it. I'm assuming it's too big for my small hands; but it would be nice to test that out in person.

Honestly, I would seriously question that assumption. I went from a nexus 5x to this and am having pretty much no issues adjusting. It's only about 3mm wider. The height is another matter but that is much less important I'm finding. YMMV.

You're right! Thank you for pointing that out! To compare, my friend just got the Pixel 2 XL and he said adjusting was very easy.

They give you 15 days to return it if you don't like it, no hassles.
