Okay so my mom has had a fingerprint on her Honor 5X for a day just to see if she'd like it. She didn't and when she tried to go back to having no password, the swipe setting was grayed out and says "disabled by administrator, encryption, or credential". Now I know it's not administrator or encryption because both are disabled so does anyone know what credential would cause this? The phone is on 6.0.1 if it helps. Thanks a ton!

You need to delete the fingerprint ID first.

If you are still having issues with your fingerprint scanner and lock screen pin, we ask that you back up your device and perform a "master reset". Make sure you have your Google Account Username and Password available for the initial re-activation stage after the reset. If you have questions, you can call our knowledgeable Honor Customer Service Team at +1-844-524-6667 and they can further assist you with your issue. (NS)
