Can't establish a Google account

Ghrrrr.
I have a Google account. Google email is working fine. But when I try to set up my Google account I get this error message: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."
Called T-Mo's tech support but they couldn't help me ("pull out battery," "reinstall SIM card," etc.).
Does anyone know what gives here? Thanks.

Problem solved, finally.
T-mobile's tech support guy narrowed it down to two culprits: old SIM card or phone issue. We started with the phone by erasing the entire hard drive (not the SIM or Media Card), which didn't take long. K'boom: Problem solved!
