Probably a real noob question. I'm upgrading from a Galaxy Note 3 to an S8. I connected to my pc with a USB cable and copied off everything I could find. I activated the new phone and noticed some stuff didn't copy over. I look on the old phone and in My Files there are a number of docs, pics, videos, ... I've looked at every folder using my pc and can't find them. If I do a search for *.jpg, the computer will find them, but I can't see a folder or copy them. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Welcome to Android Central! Using the My Files app, select one of those files that didn't copy over, and look at its Information or Details -- it should tell you the directory path where it's located. If it's saved to a protected system directory, those won't show up in Windows Explorer when you're connected via USB to the PC.

My Files won't see files in a system directory without root. I think his problem is, as you said, learning the directory structure so he understands where to look for the files. Pictures can be buried 5 directories deep under /DCIM. People make "albums" in Gallery without understanding how that's reflected in the directory structure - then they get lost looking for the files.
