Can't get a sunrise alarm to work on Samsung A32 5G

I just upgraded from a Motorola e4 to a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, and the only thing I haven't been able to get working is a sunrise alarm. I had used the Google Clock's sunrise just fine on the e4, but this same app doesn't light up the screen at all on the A32 (yes, I downloaded the Google alarm clock app again on the A32 -- this is the app that isn't working for me).

I've also tried a bunch of other apps as well, like the "Light Alarm Clock," and I did grant it the permission to draw over other apps, but no sunrise either. I also don't see a sunrise option available on the provided Samsung Clock.

Any help appreciated. I've been tearing my hair out over this! It's an SM-A326U running Android 11. Thank you!

Thank you for the response, and I apologize if I wasn't clear, but the Google Clock is exactly the app that no longer works for me on the A32 when it worked fine on the e4 (in fact, this morning it played a sound when I had specifically asked it to be silent -- my reason for this is that if I'm short sleep then the light can't wake me and I need the extra rest).

I apologize i must miread that , the Samsung Alarm clock app has bedtime in Android 12 as im in beta for my Note 20u , maybe can wait a little longer but surprised the Google app is giving a problem , maybe try uninstall then install again or see if it needs a update.

Still no luck. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I also noticed it did not have permission to draw over other apps, so I gave it that. I also made an exception for Google Clock in my "Do not disturb" rules, which does last after the time my alarm is supposed to go off (again, I want to only be waked if I am caught up on enough sleep that the light wakes me, so I don't want notifications until my "harder" alarm later).

And another unrelated question. I seem unable to post replies here until after I have edited the original post (even if I make no actual edits). Is this expected behavior?

Welcome to Android Central! It may just be that the Google Clock app has some minor incompatibilities with Samsung's firmware. Send feedback to Google and also Samsung about this.

Are you posting using one of the Android Central apps, or on the forum website?

Thanks for the welcome!

Oh hey, now I see the reply area just fine now. Not sure why it wasn't there before (I'm using the forum website and was before as well).

Thanks for the advice! I have usually gotten little to no response from tech support (including Google), so that's usually my last resort, but the Samsung chat support tech, Lanz T., immediately confirmed that this feature is not yet supported on this phone (and indeed, that he has gotten the same behavior on his own phone from this app). He asked me to escalate the issue using the Samsung Members app, which I've done. No idea when or if they will fix this.

I also sent an email to android-clock-feedback@google.com, and I've posted my experience on the above thread as well.

Glad to hear that you were able to confirm the problem with Samsung themselves! You're doing all the right things -- now it's just a waiting game.

The issue with being unable to reply to a post might be one of two things: (1) the forum site might have logged you out for some reason -- that happens to me sometimes; or (2) you might be seeing the "Q&A" version of the thread, which for some reason doesn't allow any replies. The Q&A version shows the question in much bigger font. The way to get out of that is to edit the URL by deleting all of the extra characters after "html".

Ah, I do recall the font being bigger, so that was probably why. Good to know how to handle that if I ever see that again, thanks!

Laughably, the response from ERMS SEA on Samsung Members app was: "I am sorry to hear about Alarm issue .[sic] I can understand the inconveniences [sic] that this issue has caused. In order to correct the problem, I would advise you to visit the below link

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00084103/

If for any reason the information we provided did not resolve your issue, we have various contact channels that are available to assist in resolving your concern."

And directs me to the chat support that sent me there in the first place! And as you can see from the link, it has absolutely nothing to do with Google Clock or the Samsung A32, but are simply directions on how to use the alarm clock on the Samsung smart watch!

So... gonna go back to chat and report this. <sigh>

Well hey, they fixed it! I guess it's rather like the support folks at my work. It's very hit-or-miss depending on who you get! Shaik Aa asked me to install Smart Tutor to allow them to remote in and diagnose the issue. Within seconds, they force quit Google Clock, cleared the cache, and asked me to check it. Dubiously, I did so... but then it worked! Both the sunrise feature and going off silently.

I was dubious because I figured both the recent fresh install (this is a new phone), as well as the uninstall/reinstall I tried would've rendered such steps unhelpful, but when I asked what they did, they confirmed that's all it was.

I was also dubious because, earlier in the chat, they accidentally sent me a few messages clearly intended for someone else, and I would normally share such things for laughs, but as it was an honest mistake and they fixed my issue so quickly (when two others before were completely useless), I will spare them that.

(and yes, I remembered to uninstall Smart Tutor afterwards, as it did necessarily ask for a lot of permissions)

Well, hmm. Not quite out of the woods. It rang the default ring tone this morning instead of going off silently. But when I retested it, it worked. Going to try setting it just before my hard alarm tomorrow to see what happens.
