Can't get gmail on phone to add my 2nd gmail account

I've read through alot of stuff on this but can't seem to find the answer. I want to add my 2nd gmail account to my gmail on my new razr maxx but it will not allow me. It says improper credentials, not correct user name and or password etc. I KNOW its a good account and my user name and password are correct. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

I linked the account through you tube and it figured it all out on its own. It appears there is a major glitch with gmail but all is good now. So if you can get your second gmail account to setup on your phone go to youtube and subscibe. It will ask you if you want to link an account then just add the account you want to make work.
