Can't get into Google Account

Hey everyone.. Not sure where this would go so please move to the right area if needed.

My wife got a new iPhone (I know this is Android central... I'm a Samsung user myself lol), and has since lost access to her Google account.

She transferred everything from the old iPhone to the new one and erased the old iPhone. She went to log in to her Gmail/Google account and has forgotten her password.

When she tries to recover, it sends her phone a text message which she answers the number code, but then it wants to also send her email a verification code to reset her password. The problem is her recovery email address is the email she can't log in to.

This is insanely frustrating as we have important documents and stuff we need access to.

Is there any way to get this account unlocked? We're currently doing the wait 7 days thing to see if that resets anything, but she really needs this account back. Google is absolutely no help.

Thanks in advance!

According to this help guide, she can try creating a new email address for Google to contact her at (Step 5): https://guidebooks.google.com/get-s...e/how-to-recover-your-google-account?hl=en-us

There are a bunch of alternate ways to authenticate a Google account, but unfortunately they require some degree of forethought. I set up most of these early on as a precaution (except for a physical security key, which I don't own): https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform=Desktop#zippy= The important last resort method to make sure you set up are the backup codes -- generate them, then print them out and keep them safe somewhere.

We waited a full week and did your steps you posted. It worked! Thank you very much!
