can't get moto g 2014 to play messages thru car bt

I can't get moto g to play messages thru my car bluetooth. I got my phone a week ago or so and messages played through without a problem. (2015 rav 4) now no messages or emails play through car Bluetooth. I've checked all relevant (I thought) settings several times. I also tried with and without moto assist app but no change. Phone is on lollipop 5.02
