Can't get recovery console to come up after rooting (sholes updater app)

Sorry for placing this here, I'm not sure if it's a Droid thing or a general rooting issue.

I installed the Sholes updater app from the market place and hit the button to root. Everything seems fine and it told me to reboot and hold the X button to bring up the recovery console thing. However, no matter how long I hold the X button on the keyboard while booting (from the time the phone is off to the time the homescreen comes up) nothing ever comes up.

Any suggestion for what I am doing wrong?

really? hmm. i just used sholes mod yesterday and it worked fine. i turned off the phone, held x, turned on the phone, and after about 10 seconds, the triangle with an exclamation point showed up, at which point i held cam button and vol up. it didn't give me any problems at all. strange.

aha 4th times the charm :D

haha! stinks that it took a while, but the important part is that it worked eventually. I wasn't too much of a fan of the sholes rom, it force closed on me a couple times. i switched over to the bugless beast 0.8.7 rom, and it has been treating me well so far.

I had some trouble at first, but i think it was just impatience. once you figure out how long to hold and such its so easy!

:)

just a quick note.... once you're using the sprecovery app (after root/modding)... holding the vol up + cam button for too long will make you reboot.

I thought I had screwed something up, but I just realized that once the sprecovery app loads.. camera button selects the menu item. first menu item? reboot.

i tried this about 3 times before I realized, you dont need to hold down the vol up + cam button for that long. just reboot holding down the X, once you get your Moto symbol, press the vol up + cam for a second or two, and it'll go right into sprecovery.
