can't hear the caller on Galaxy 3....

Just started having this problem on my Galaxy 3. When I receive a call, the caller can hear me but I cannot hear the caller. Sounds like the volume is down to 1, but it is on the highest setting.
I can hear the call if I plug in earphones, or on the speaker, but NOT on the phone itself. AT&T had me try a couple of things (safe mode...etc.) but still have the problem. Don't want to do factory reset unless really have to. Anyone else encounter this particular problem?

If the problem persists in Safe Mode, I would suspect a problem with the earpiece speaker itself.

Thanks, MR. Diddy...but here's an UPDATE: Found a solution, in case anyone else runs into it. This, after spending an hour on the phone with Samsung, doing this and that, and them wanting me to do the dreaded FDR - seems all it needed was a shot of compressed air into the ear thingy. Ta da. Works fine now.The stuff is magic. And no FDR. Whew!
