ya, I've read Odin is good, I just can't figure out why it failed and said it wasn't connecting to my phone. Hopefully I figure it out, I definitely appreciate all of your help.

not your fault! All I can think of is I didn't have the right drivers or something for my phone on the pc. but, I never installed phone drivers on my mac and it used to read it, lately it hasn't wanted to though, not sure why.
Verizon told me that Best Buy might be able to wipe it out and make it like new. Last ditch effort.

That is a possibility. I sometimes forget they have Samsung people there to help.

I had to find a best buy with a Samsung Experience in it, but the guy did it!! This was after I went to another BB and got a Note 4, which is ok b/c it's not so bad with the Edge plan - didn't think I'd ever do that but apparently you get a $15 bill credit so after all is said and done the phone really wasn't much more than paying $300 up front. I'll sell the Note 3. Still says it needs an update, not sure I want to try that or not, lol! I know if I do and it doesn't work it won't mess the phone up though.
