Can't make a phone call in Android Auto? It might be this ...

Here's a fun edge case.

I kept trying to call my wife. I'd tap her contact there on the phone screen in Android Auto, but nothing would happen. And it took me a few minutes to figure out what as going on.

I was working my way through a new install on the M9, so I didn't have all the defaults set yet. So when I was trying to make a call, the phone was asking whether I wanted to use the phone, or use Skype. But because the phone itself is dark, you won't see this. And if there's any sort of lock screen (even if you're using swipe and it's not password protected), you still won't see this.

So make sure you have a default phone dialer, boys and girls. This isn't the sort of thing you'll want to be doing while you're driving.

Wonder if the Hangouts dialer gets in the way too. It does for me everytime I order Chinese food on my phone!

Edit: and when I set the true dialer as default, it never remembers, thanks to the hangouts one.
