Can't receive emojis on LG G3?

I can send emojis just fine, but i cannot receive any emojis that are sent to me. They all show up like this. Ive tried multiple different keyboard s and nothing seems to work. Please help
Ive seen other threads with the same question but none were solved.

That almost looks like they were sent using a custom keyboard... does it work if someone does a simple : ) emoji?

They're using the stock samsung keyboard on a galaxy s 5 active. I recieve a simple smiley face just fine. I get these symbols with anyone who sends them.

I suggest you crop off the number on the img above.

Can you try using Google keyboard and check if it will let you see those emojis?

Also, check in Messaging, 3-dot menu, Settings, Text Messages, Character Encoding.

I have no such setting:/ it only has options for delivery report and priority
