Can't Remove Large "My Library" Widget & "Recommended Widget"

I know about a "long press & drag to the top" to remove apps (this is my 2nd Nexus), but for the life of me, I can't remove the very large "My Library" on the homepage and on the second page, can't remove the "recommended" smaller widget. When I long press I can move it near the top and I can see the red Remove, but I can't drag it into the remove.

I never had this problem in the 2012 Nexus. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I'd rather fill my Home Screens with other things!

The only thing that comes to mind is that with large widgets near the top of homescreen pages, you'll have to drag it away from the top and then back up to the 'remove' indicator.

It sounds like you may be having a slightly different issue though, in which case I can't offer much other help.

Have you experienced this problem on your 2013 Nexus? Were you able just to long press and drag the large "My Library" up to Remove and it actually did disappear?

Think I should be a factory reset? Sorta hate to do it as all my many apps have been downloaded but if this will let me remove the widgets, then it will be worth it.

I haven't been unable to remove them on the new Nexus 7, so other than installing another launcher (Apex, Nova, etc.) all I can really suggest is to go forward with that reset.

I've been able to remove all my widgets w/o issue. It's the same as getting rid of icons. Sometimes you need to get your finger over the delete icon. The widget will turn red indicating it is about to be deleted.

Before doing a factory reset, go into the apps and clear the data from the launcher app; that might remove everything from the launcher.

I was having the exact same issue with one of my widgets, it was stuck at the top of the screen and nothing happened when I long pressed then when I let go of it all it did was open the widget.....so I simply restarted my launcher and it went away. The option to restart my launcher was in the menu screen. I am using a Samsung S4 phone.

While trying to ditch this widget in the usual way I noticed sizing handles appeared so I reduced the widget to a more 'normal' size & tried the usual way again and it worked on my Nexus 4! So I tried on my 2012 Nexus 7 with the same result. Both running Jellybean 4.3

I just removed the recommended widget from my device. I long pressed the text on the top then drug it down and back up toward the top of the screen and the widget flashed red to remove slightly before touching the remove text.
Hope this helps.

I think you have to go through a computer and clear any books or magazine subscriptions through Google Play, first...Probably wrong though, but hey, my advice didn't cost you anything! It's how I got mine to disappear.
