Why won't it root? I'm using the aRoot method and its not working. Following all the instructions. Still nothing. Help?

SD card mounted as none? USB debugging turned on? Those are the two things that stuck out to me that people would forget and/or pass over when rooting this phone.

i run aRoot and it goes through everything like "normal" and my phone reboots but it still isnt root. i read every single post on XDA and nothing has worked for me...

Hmm...I read through that thread too. Usually they aren't n00b friendly but that doesn't seem to be the case in that thread. I would try posting there.

Also have you tried an app that required root to see what happens?

Ok I just posted on that thread explaining everything. And what app would require superuser permission? I'm having a brain fart... Today I rooted using the superoneclick and I have superuser and i can sideload apps. I was reading today about how some devices were listed as "offline" in the ADB device thing. Maybe mine is like that? They ended up returning their devices but idk how amazon works with returning... Would I take it to ATT? the only thing is that i didn't activate my phone the "right way" i think. i just threw in my old sim card and left the one it came with on my bed stand.

Forgot to say that after rooting with superoneclick i can download and install third party apps. So i know im rooted. Also, even though im rooted i want to run over it with aRoot to remove the busy box mess and allow for mobile hotspot.

Hopefully they can help. Seeing as I don't have an atrix I can't be right in front of one to go step by step.

Hopefully it's something simple.

You can either reflash to a previous update or you can live without root access. Those are your only options ATM.

The two biggest things it to make sure you have your device set to USB debugging enabled and once you connect your phone to your PC, change your USB setting to "none."

I would suggest using RSDlite and flashing back to 4.1.26 again. Then go through the steps to Aroot beforeupdate, then run the 4.1.57 update, then afterupdate and install gingerblur - should work! Good luck!

2011/04/10: The current "aRoot" & "SuperOneClickv1.6.5" root procedures will not work on

Motorola Atrix 4G
System Version=4.1.57.MB860.ATT.en.US
Model MB860
Android=2.2.1
build=OLYFR_U4_1.5.7

Why? the psneuter exploit used by aRoot & Super One Click has been block by this Motorola update.

I hate Motorola for blocking this type of stuff. It's my phone, let me do what I want to with it.

As mentioned before, you can do the whole flash to 1.26 root/retain root process. Alternatively, if you are already on 1.57 you now have the option to use android sideload wonder machine in conjunction with the new gingerbreak root method to obtain root directly through 1.57. Best of luck.
