Can't Select Phone Numbers on Google Maps?!?

It is possible I am just losing my mind, but this problem appears real.

I have a first gen Nexus 7 (no cellular radio) running KitKat (4.4.2) and Google Maps (7.5.0). When I look up a business in Google Maps, the page displays a phone number, but I cannot select it at all. Pressing does nothing. Long pressing does nothing. Pressing and dragging does nothing.

Am I missing something obvious? Are others having this problem?

I've tried to recreate your problem. I am running Maps 7.5.0 and KitKat 4.4.2.
When you search a business, it should give you a button that says 'Call'.
