Can't swipe down status bar on S8+ Android 7.0

Unable to swipe down the status bar. I am using TouchWiz. I searched this issue and the only thing I could find was: switch to guest user and switch back (multiple users are disabled on android 7.0 and I'm not sure how to enable them. I looked how to but it was too complicated. I need something more step-by-step), set a pattern pin ... reset memory ... restart (didn't work), and hard reset (didn't work). The only other diagnosis was having a dead top touch area and that resulted in having the phone replaced. I pre-ordered it 4/20/17 and I received it 04/25/17 from a Verizon retail office. I should be able to return it and get a new one, no questions asked, but I'm trying to find a solution first. It is an S8+ running Android 7.0..

Welcome to the forums. That's very strange. Have you already tried swiping down the status bar after switching to landscape mode? This could give you a clue if there's something wrong with that area of the screen.

Also, try setting the FPS action to expand the notifications and see what happens. And with Nova create a widget for this same action (in Nova Actions).

I moved your thread to the S8 & S8+ forum where it'll be easier getting feedback from other owners.

Thanks for doing that. I turned on the FPS gesture and was able to expand the status bar. I turned on Auto rotate and was able to pull down the status bar once in portrait mode. I think I need to return my phone. 😡

Before doing that you could try safe mode, just to be sure that's there's no conflict with any other app that you downloaded.

Didn't mention it, but tried that as well 😂😂😂
Oh well, it seems that there's a problem with that screen area. There's an easy way to test responsiveness on the screen. You need to enable the developer options and switch 'show touches' ON. It's fun and pretty safe. Just swipe around the screen, specially on that area, and check the visual feedback for touches.

In this thread you can see how this option works.

Not sure, mate. The thing is, a factory reset didn't fix it and safe mode ruled out any conflict with a third party app. That leaves you with a conflict with a system app, a bug in system or, most likely, a hardware issue. A new phone shouldn't behave like this, so a replacement could be the best option.

There are a few things to try, but just for fun or out of curiosity. I remember reading about Samsung Pay or edge notifications causing similar issues. Try disabling them and see if it makes a difference. Also, check what's listed under running apps in the developer options just in case you see something unusual. Another thing is checking which apps have 'draw over other apps' permission and switch it off temporarily.

Do you have a glass screen protector on? That area is particularly difficult to use your you have one in.

Samsung Pay isn't on my phone or in the settings. I disabled edge notifications and nothing happened so I completely turned it off and same. Nothing unusual was in running apps but I did close things like one drive and various Verizon apps -- again, nothing. I disabled all draw over other apps and still nothing.

I'll update with what Verizon says/does. Should go sometime this week.

When I was at the store, they went through the usual protocols. However, when the "specialist" was talking to someone on the phone, he said that he was able to slide down the status bar when a pushed notification from Verizon was sent. But, as soon as he cleared the notification, it could no longer be pulled down. Ended up getting a new phone. Thanks for the help.

That's a weird problem. Almost seems like it was a setting rather than a bug.

Glad to hear you got a new phone that works!

I get exactly the same problem. S8+ can't access the top menu while swiping down. Weirdly enough when I remove the cellphone case (single fit black plastic VRS design) the phone works perfeclty. So I assume the case is doing something, I can't seem to find the logic behind it. What do you guys think?

Ok so, the glass from the screen protector was interfering with the perimeter of the plastic case. The plastic pushed the glass up, so thats why it was interfering. The plastic and the glass were exactly the same size kind of. The case pushed the glass up and the glue came off, screwing the screen protector, I went and get a plastic screen protector and put the case again, obviously the same thing happened. I reccomend this case only if you want to leave your phone screen unprotected.

Yeah, that why I'm without a screen protector right now. I have the Otterbox commuter but I might try to install a wet film type soon.
