Android Central Question

Okaay... so last night I'm assuming my phone updated, because I have and old Samsung S4, and I just had Pattern set as my unlock phone type. And now, it changed automatically to Swipe to Unlock, and before I couldn't turn Swipe on or off, it was turned off be administration's or something. Now it says I have Pattern as my Screen Lock but when I go to turn it on I have the Swipe or a lock at the bottom that then brings me to the Pattern lock. Which makes no sense cause I can swipe, get into my phone, or swipe do my pattern and ALSO get into my phone.

Does anyone know what to do? Everything I try it doesn't give me privacy and leaves my phone wide open. Ive done tons of research but didnt find anything helpful. Please help.

The S4 is a very old phone and I doubt it updated as Samsung doesn't support it any more. I can't understand why your security is suddenly compromised like this. Have you tried safe mode to see if you can be secure that way.

Most phones enter safe mode with the following instructions

The process for turning on Safe mode is as follows:

Press and hold the Power button.

Tap and hold Power off.

When the Reboot to safe modeprompt appears, tap again or tap OK.

Your device will then restart and it will say “Safe mode” in the bottom-left corner.

Welcome to Android Central! Typically, when you wake the phone's screen, you still have to swipe up to get to the pattern unlock screen. This is to prevent accidental unlock attempts if the screen inadvertently wakes (like in your pocket or purse). If the Automatically Lock interval is set to a relatively long time (like 2 minutes instead of 5 seconds), then it's possible that just swiping up will unlock the phone if you were just using it within that interval.

But as Kizzy Catwoman mentioned, the S4 is an exceedingly obsolete phone, and you're probably noticing more and more incompatibilities with modern apps these days. More importantly, it's a security risk, since there are likely a lot of unpatched security flaws. I strongly recommend upgrading to a more modern phone.
