Previously I had Cognition 3.04 but had to go back to stock because people couldn't hear me when they called. Now I'm wanting to try out stock Froyo, but when I try to set my phone to kies update through the USB option, it will go to the initializing screen and close shortly afterward. It will keep doing that until I unplug my phone. I figured that maybe I should try to reset my phone through Odin.. it recognizes it, but won't reset it. I've left it on there for about an hour and there was absolutely no progress... so... any ideas?

I would read through the instructions here:

[STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY - xda-developers

The usual problems people have are:

1) bad usb port or cable (try a different one)
2) wrong usb drivers (download and install the ones listed in the post above)
3) doing things in the wrong order (open the ODIN application before plugging the USB cable into the PC / laptop).
4) not putting the phone into download mode before attempting to flash the ROM (follow instructions in xda post above, method 1 is the easiest, but if you dont have adb installed, I find 3 is easier than 2).

Hope this helps, consider pressing thanks, it makes me happy.

I figure its not a cable or port problem.. I can still transfer files. And I've also tried a different cable as well. I was able to root my phone last night as well, so I don't think it's a driver problem... and I've used Odin quite a few times, so I really have no idea...

Can you describe the steps you take, and the point at which it hangs?

Which version of odin are you using?

Fyi: I have a cable which will transfer files, but won't allow me to send adb commands / odin update. You might want to check that again.

I remove the battery, sim and sd card. Replace batter. Press volume up/down and insert the USB. Goes into download mode just fine, Odin recognizes my device, but then just sits there when I press master clear. I've tried it numerous times and it shows absolutely no progress. I've left it on there for hours on end too. Notta

I was finally able to reset my phone with Odin... not sure what I did, but it worked. Still no go on Kies, though. Goes to the initializing screen for about a second and then flashes to the home screen. It keeps doing that until I remove the USB. Do I need to set my phone to debug mode or anything like that? Just getting more and more frustrating

Go back to the XDA post- running Master clear does not require download mode. Just boot normally with usb debugging on, plug in, and press master clear.

Download mode is only necessary for replacing the ROM.

So... what is the difference between the start and master clear buttons on Odin? I'm able to use the start button just fine, but not master clear
