My captivate is really nice, but my one gripe is the buttons on the bottom. They dont stay lit very long at all and on my phone, I have to press repeatedly to get them to recognize my touch... especially the back button.

Should I exchange my unit or is this typical?

Is there anyway to get them to stay lit longer?

I am finding the capacitive buttons less than desirable as well. If you do a slight "brush" as you press them, it seems to be more reliable.

Nothing like an actual button mind...

When i press hard on them they work everytime...like they are pressure sensitive or something.... you experiencing this? Why would that be?

Have you put a case or screen protector on the phone? That may make using those buttons more difficult.

I've found that the best way to use the buttons is to start a little above (toward the samsung text) the button icon and sweep my finger down over them.

I have a screen protector applied.

Hope this helps,

AoN

Work fine once screen is active
Don't work well when screen or buttons are off or dim ed

hit home>settings>sound & display> keyboard timeout > you can then select any time available - i have mine set up to same as screen. you can also increase the screen timeout.

as for the responsiveness, ive heard several people say that. but my epic 4g works fine. i came from an iphone so at first i was skeptical and wouldve rather joined verizon for the x but i actually really love my phone. its the best

Only works for the Epic. Captivate doesn't have that option.

...it's far from a deal-breaker, but I'm having the same issue with my Cappy's buttons.

Then there's the times that I THINK it's not registering, only to find out it registered every press and was just hung-up on an app update or something.

Cumbersome...
