Captivate Gallery Creating 5x Thumbnails per 1 image - Froyo 2.2

Ever since I upgraded to Froyo 2.2 my photo gallery has gone crazy. I'm a photographer and I have various directories of images. If I have 10 images in a directory the android gallery application will now display 50 images making 5 duplicates for every one image.

I've attached my phone to my computer and searched my internal & external SD cards to see if I some how I might have copied the directory several times. The searches only come back with one directory found and the correct number of images in it. (I was a software engineer for 13 years so I'm very comfortable with all aspects of my computer).

How can I get rid of the duplicate picture's being displayed problem?

Sincerely,

Ivan

my gallery problems (and every other problem i've ever had, including random shut offs) were fixed by selecting the "wipe user data" function from the boot menu... to access it, hold the power button and both volume keys simultaneously... this will erase all of your apps and contacts, so make sure to back everything up.

I also prefer Quickpic (free) as a gallery replacement. You can filter folders without nomedia, and it does not cause lag like the 3d gallery often does.

Since you are a software engineer, did you make a symbolic link loop by mistake? The loop might max out at five iterations.

You asked if I made a symbolic link by mistake. My only experience with those have been on Unix systems and I know that Linux falls within that category. I transferred all of the images by connecting my phone direct to my Windows machine. When I go to my DOS command prompt and execute a dir /b listing of files no extra files show up and they have the normal file attributes. Also on "my files" on my phone the correct number of files appear. QuickPic doesn't have any problems with displaying the correct number of files so I'm not sure what might be wrong.

Yes, I was thinking Linux where directory in a tree contains a link to the top of the tree. I'm not sure about windows. Windows makes links some times when your copy a directory or do a "send to" on the directory. I guess it doesn't sound like the loop is your problem.

That's a pretty radical fix for just the duplicate thumbnail issue. I found that all you have to do is to applications>manage apps>all>media storage>clear data. Reboot..done. It does mess with personalized ringtones however

There are some known/recurring issues with the Gallery. I can't say that it is an Android thing, but it as at least a Galaxy S thing. Sometimes the Gallery will forget it has thumbs, and run away on creating them. This leads to huge media scanning times, large lag when using the Gallery, etc. It got to the point that there are multiple versions of Gallery3d.apk floating around, some that cause a memory leak and some don't. Some that allow more 3d tilting, etc. It is a mess.

Quickpic.

EDIT- Floating Image is a replacement app that does (better) the other functionality the 3d gallery offers that Quickpic does not, which is a "fancy coolio" interface to let someone look at your pics.
