Captivate v. Xperia discussion

Okay..I'm just going to assume by the Mb they actually meant Gb?

8GB of internal memory is boosted with a 2MB card in the box, and can be expanded up to 32MB.

And it's still not (IMO) competition for the Captivate. Especially how it doesn't even have multi-touch nor will it even come close to running Froyo by the end of the year, when we'll most likely have it by September.

I was hoping this thread would pop up.
I just bought my Captivate on Friday and Love it so far (except for battery life)
and was just wondering if I should have waited to check out the Xperia. From what I can tell, the Captivate is stil a far superior device.

Yea, overall specs make the Captivate the better choice. Just wonder what makes it the 'smarter phone'?

Maybe the GPS will work?

Well my gps works fine locks on with google maps with out any issues. I guess I got lucky with my captivate on launch day. Now the xperia looks like a pretty cool phone but I dont think it will actually compete with the Captivate.. Is the GPS issue really worth switching to a lesser phone in terms of specs?? Not to me, even gps speedo works fine...

Cheers,
Charlie

I did that one GPS 'fix' posted here at AC; and since then I haven't had an issue with my GPS.

Have used it on many occasions, with Google Maps Navigation, and been pretty pleased. It doesn't pick up the GPS signal as fast as my TomTom (nor do I really expect it to), but once it got locked in; it stayed locked in.

Is it worth it? Yes and No.

The GPS is not just for maps, I can use a map book or know where i am going.
What about other location based services; Weather, Latitude, Find my Car, Friends in the area, Poynt, etc...

Can I live with out these things? Yes, but that is not why I bought the phone, not why I pay for the data.

I have tried the "Fix" many times and it does not work.

We all know the statement from Samsung.

It is tough to continue to wait with no end in site.

and I think that the Sony would be a good fit between the Aria and the Captivate for ATT.

I really do think that the it is a good phone. I don't want to give up my Captivate.

I totally understand where you are coming from but I use Latitude, GPS Speedo, Google Earth and Maps. I have not used Find My Car nor have I tried Poynt.. I use the location based services the GPS offers but it is odd as I never had a problem with my gps locking. Could it be a certain batch of phones had the issue? I am not totally sure, I have had my phone since Launch day of the Captivate *july 18, 2010* and my first captivate had a screwy way of the Home and Back touch sensitive buttons started activating on their own even before I left the store. I took it back and exchanged it after 5 - 6 hours because it was annoying, 2nd phone no issues at all. Works better then my bold 9000 and gps seems to be even faster then my bolds.. Not sure what to say though. Hopefully Samsung does fix it for everyone else though!

HTH,
Charlie
