I have not seen this posted anywhere or mentioned at all. However, it is something they should have put on the box
I found this out only by messing around with the phone.
The Captivate works with Rhapsody to Go file downloads. I am not talking about the Android streaming app here.
For you not familiar with Rhapsody to Go, Rhapsody offers a monthly service that allows you to download music tracks to a computer or a compatible mp3 player with a desktop music manager you can download to your PC. When this happens a license code is placed into the music file that lets you play the track as long as you are subscribed to the service. The license code allows the file to be played for several weeks. You do have to reconnect the mp3 player occasionally for the licenses to be refreshed. The advantage of this is higher audio quality and not have to use battery to stream.
For this to work the player has to support the WMV file type, be recognized by Windows as a MTP compatible player, and be supported by Rhapsody. By being recognized as a Microsoft Transfer Protocol player mens that it will also synch with a variety of other Music management software like Windows Media Player.
Here is how to get it working:
1. Be a Rhapsody to Go subscriber.
2. Install the Rhapsody application on your PC.
3. On the Captivate run the settings app and go to Applications and select USB settings. Change the Settings to Media Player or Ask on Connection. (Just be sure to select Media player when plugged in if you select Ask on Connection.)
4. Plug in Captivate to PC and start the Rhapsody App.
5. The Captivate will show up on the left of the application as a Samsung compatible media player.
6. Find some good music and drag to the captivate Icon on the left of the screen.
7. Rhapsody will then begin to download those tracks to the Captivate.
8. Enjoy
The only issues I have seen is that I have seen is that:
1. The Music Player app is not compatible with Cover Art that Rhapsody downloads. Another player app or a Album art grabber may fix this.
2. Occasionally the transfers will hang (it may just be me). You will have to restart the Rhapsody app and try again.
I still find this interesting that this was not mentioned in the Captivate info. Maybe I just missed it. This would be a great phone for Rhapsody to go users that would like to ditch their mp3 players for a compatible phone.
