Recently got the optimus v. It does not come with a car charger and therefore was thinking about getting one. But is it better not to use it? Obviously, if the battery is low, I would want to charge it. But I'm not in the car for an hour or 2 to get the phone fully charged. Isn't it better to fully charge the phone instead of increments at a time?

I always have a car charger handy, and my lithium ion smartphone batteries seem to last for years, no matter how far, or not, they're discharged first. Just about any car charger with a Micro USB cable will work, or you can use the data cable and a DC USB plug. The OEM AC charger is rated at 700mah, so it's best if you can get one with that rating, at least. Cheap on eBay and Amazon if you look a little, but retail stores have them as well.

Hey,

I bought a cheap usb adaptor for the socket in my car on ebay and it works great. The output is 5v which is the voltage that usb puts out.

I'm under the impression that any proper charge is a good charge, no matter the length. This isn't like back in the day where you had to drain a device, and then fully charge it, before using it, in order not to hurt it.

Another option is what I do.
My stereo has usb outs that allow me to plug in portable hds and sd card readers. I have one of them dedicated to my phone as a charger. Plus I can play the music off the sd card.

I use my stock wall charger (AC) in the car with a mini inverter (50W or so) plugged into the lighter outlet.
I've heard that DC car chargers won't fully charge a cell battery, but with the USB charge cables I don't see why that'd be true. However, my older Sprint phones wouldn't charge on a 12V car charger if fully dead, but would from a wall charger plugged into an inverter in the car.
