Car Panel getting killed?

So, I'm trying to create a Tasker profile to launch the Car Panel based on orientation and power being connected, and I thought of something...

When using the VZW iGrip dock that automatically launches and I assume closes the car panel app when you place it in and take it out of the dock... how is the car panel being closed? Is it killing the application? Is it simply launching home? Is there a difference?

When I use Tasker, if you don't root, you can't "kill an app," but rather I'd have to just "launch home." This I presume would leave the car panel running in the background. What is the iGrip mount doing when you take it out of the dock?

So, follow-up question...

There appears to be 2 car panel apps when I go to create a profile in Tasker. One that if selected puts a little car icon in my notification bar, the other car panel simply doesn't. When I load home from the one with the icon, I'm left with a notification that says "Click to Exit Car Mode" or something like that and when I load home from the other... nothing is there.

Is the one without the car mode icon not running when I load home? Could this be what the dock is using?

The iGrip and Car Panel work together via a circuit board connection in the iGrip... that's how it knows it's in the cartel... if you want a shortcut to the app you could load a launcher... ADW, LauncherPro and Go Launcher EX will all show the app in your app drawer.

No, launching the car panel is not my issue. I was able to create a profile using Tasker to launch the car panel application using a combination of power connected and screen orientation.

My question is... how is the Car Panel being exited when you use the iGrip dock? When you remove the Thunderbolt from the iGrip and the circuit board connection ceases... does the service and app get killed/stopped? Or does the Home screen get loaded and the app is left in background? Or do you manually need to exit it after you remove it?

Like most apps, the OS will stop the app when the OS decides its necessary to stop the app... disconnecting from the iGrip will exit the app and go back to the home screen... it might not stop the app, but like I said it will stop the app when it determines it is not needed... let the OS do it's job.

I don't know if I'm not being clear or your misunderstanding me...

I'm not looking for an app to kill a process or asking if I should go on an app killing rampage.

My question is more related to what is happening when you take the Thunderbolt out of the iGrip dock? Is it killing the app? When you put it in the dock, there is a notification saying "Car mode enabled" and to click it to exit the app. If you just take the Thunderbolt out of the dock... what happens?

I don't have a iGrip dock and want to know?

Ok, let's start over again and I'll break down your questions.

My question is more related to what is happening when you take the Thunderbolt out of the iGrip dock? Is it killing the app?

When you take the device out the iGrip dock it stops the app. That does not mean it kills the app. The OS will decide when it truly needs remove the app. The OS could keep the app in it's memory for a while until it decides to actual remove it from memory.

When you put it in the dock, there is a notification saying "Car mode enabled" and to click it to exit the app. If you just take the Thunderbolt out of the dock... what happens?

And by Exiting the app as you describe above it does not kill the app. Again, it will still be in memory until the OS removes it. So again, if you take it out of the dock it will exit the app, but if you look in the Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Running tab > you will more than likely still see the app running.

Not sure why you are so interested in the words "killing the app" unless you are coming from the Blackberry world... but apps are not killed like they are in the Blackberry's... they could still be in memory as running for a while after you stop them and this will not harm your battery life.

I second fatboy97; I have the car dock and it does remain running in the background when removed from the dock. I "Force Stop" the app to fully shut it down. I'm OCD like that, but refuse to use App Killer programs.

Okay... does the notification that says "Car mode enabled" go away when you take it out of the dock?

Thanks... I'm fairly sure the OP would not have believed me if I had said the same thing.

Not quite sure what you are talking about fatboy... I referenced the notification in my first post. Wouldn't have taken more than 1 response for you to mention it.

What is Car panel mode?

It is a display mode that is automatically activated when plugged into a car dock. If you wish, you can search your device for it (Car Panel) and manually launch the panel. It's designed to make using the TB in a vehicle more streamlined. See for yourself.
