Careful with the SIM on the 21

So if someone is dumb enough, or in such a hurry that they don't pay attention, and jab the tool in the speaker instead of sim tray it's a flaw that is Samsung's fault?

The ejection hole is very clearly located on the sim tray.

One little flaw
I wouldn't necessarily call it a design flaw. There've always been some people who accidentally poked into an audio hole in these phones. The mic's new proximity to the sim tray might make the confusion slightly more likely, or might actually reduce the confusion, since now it's impossible to look at the mic hole without also seeing the sim-tray hole right next to it. Either way, it's still helpful to warn everyone, so thanks for posting!

Agreed on it being good to be warned. Especially since we all get so pumped, and sometimes in a hurry, when our phones first arrive!

I'd call it a flaw, There are all kinds of users and having a design that enables an error is a bad design. Not every user is as smart or observant as you are!

Hey it's the job of bloggers to point out things like this so I appreciate it.

I'd much rather this than ranting about plastic backs.

Yeah...I guess some people walk out in front of traffic everyday...even though it was clearly marked not walk....
Point is you cannot ***** proof everything. There has to be some expectation of reasonable use here as well.

I don't think this a design flaw at all.

I think the scenario you describe is different because "it was clearly marked not (Don't) walk"

they should have made the microphone/speaker hole smaller than the SIM tray removal hole,
so when one inserts the larger pointy removal tool into the SIM tray removal hole, it would fit and function as designed,
but if one were to insert it into the mic/speaker hole, it wouldn't even go in.

I disagree.....what would a reasonable person do? If you are not careful...you could walk into traffic or drive off a cliff....or drive into oncoming traffic.
I mean at what point are people responsible for their own actions? People are still going to do dumb things no matter what the product type or how well it is designed.

From the same Samobile article readers quotes
Furthermore, the channel that carries sound from the hole on the phone’s frame into the microphone module on the board is often L-shaped, so even if you stick an eject tool into the mic hole, it won’t even get close to the microphone electronics anyway.

So just no, you cannot damage that microphone and it is not necessarily a design mistake.

Wouldn't be a Samsung release if there wasn't at least one article trying to find fault in the phones design. If that's the only complaint externally than that's a good thing.

Not a flaw. How does anyone look at that mic hole and not see the sim card tray cutout right next to it?

So some guy said it's "often L-shaped". well, may i ask if there's a way for us to know if in this specific case, it is indeed L-shaped or not?

since we don't know who said it's L-shaped, we don't know if he's knowledgeable or not, right?

You ask for verification versus anything that is written here?

Then there is a link to the original post on Sammobile. You can always ask....

If you look at the reeder comments in the thread on SamMobile they all debunk this as well.
Some have accidentally done this and it did not harm the mic....

"Yep, looks line that was confirmed by that guy who destroys phones for attention and a lot of money on that one streaming service.I couldn’t find anything from Samsung but it makes sense."

Wish i knew which guy confirmed it, i.e. his username, and which site he meant by "that one streaming service".
