Case or no?

I'm about to get my Evo this weekend. I'm switching from the Palm Pre to this, and I've always used a holster for my phones.

I'm just wondering if I even need a case for this phone if it's going to be in a holster most of the time? I was looking at the Innocase active combo kit.

Honestly I have had my EVO since launch day.. No case and I pulled the screen protector off of it in August.... I do have the full body Zagg shield (Minus the screen protector now) and the edges and corners of the Zagg shield on the phone are starting to show their wear (Installed the full body the day I got it) but over all the phone is mint.... No scratches on the screen... I keep it in my back jean pocket or in my front pocket when I am wearing dress pants... I even rest it in the cup holder in my car 90% of the time when I am driving and it's still in great shape....

I just for one have never been a fan of cases... These companies spend tons of time and money to develop a product that feels and looks great right out the box and then we go putting bulky cases on them which completely takes the natural feel of the phone away..... This phone feels awesome with out the case and looks great too....

But at the same time to each his own... I like the skins best if your just trying for a certain look (there are plenty of custom skins that you can make your phone look one of a kind) but unless you work construction or are just flat out clumsy with a phone I don't want a case....

I had the Zagg skin on mine (Had one on my Pre its whole life; loved it). Pulled it off of my Evo after it got some weird rubs on the screen that wouldn't come off. The screen feels MUCH better without it, and I've had no problems with scratches. I do have a Seidio Active case on it, though... at my job, I have dropped it a few times. Without the case, at the very least it would have gotten pretty scratched. I don't really consider myself "clumsy;" it's just something that happens sometimes, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

some days I use a case, some days I go naked... using a case is a preference thing...

I have a Innocase and kick myself daily for paying as much as I did for it... I've had my Evo since launch day, and got caught up in the Evo launch accessory buying hype... I have 5 other ebay cases that work & look just as good as the Innocase, and all 5 of them combined were cheaper than the Innocase...

I had the Seidio Innocase but didn't like the loose feel of it. Then they came out with the Active case which I have now, I like the look and feel of the case, just don't like the gaps between the hard shell part and the silicone that are evident at the corners of the phone, but, really, it's not a big deal, just looks a bit cheap that way. I did get the Active Case/Holster combo, but one night, I sat in the passenger side of my car, and as I sat down, the phone was just in the wrong location and the holster snapped off. Since I was angry at myself, I just threw the remains into a public gargbage can....pretty dumb, since Seidio would have shipped me a new one if I still had the old one. I never liked the holster much anyhow since it doesn't do much in the way of protecting the phone and since it seem like it wouldn't take much to just accidentally have the holster open and release the phone to the ground, so, I went ahead and bought Seidios horizontal leather pouch/case that was meant for the Innocase. No one would give me a straight answer as to whether or not the phone with the active case installed would still fit into a leather case designed for the smaller Innocase, so I just took the plunge and bought it anyway. Turns out, it works great.

Anyhow....I am not a case person myself, I usually rely on a horizontal leather pouch/case to keep my phone safe, but, in the case of the Evo I did get a case as soon as I could, reason being was the camera lense which is otherwise the main resting space for when you lay the phone on it's back. I didn't want it to get scratched up, hence the case.

I bought a case from Daydeal (a TPU cover) and I really like it. However, I just had the case off earlier because I was messing around with my phone. I had to run out to our warehouse, and I threw the phone in my shirt pocket. In the warehouse, I bent over to pick something up, and of course, forgot my phone was in there. it hit the ground pretty hard, but luckily, no real damage. There is now a small nick in the bottom corner of the casing, but that was it.

Knock on wood, but I think I will put it back in the case. :)

Please put a screen protector on the phone. Buy a HIGH QUALITY screen protector and you won't even be able to tell you have one on your phone. I have this ONE . I can't even tell it's on there and has saved my screen from a TON of scratches. What ever you do, do NOT buy a ZAGG protector. They are overpriced and feels like your phone is wrapped in saran wrap.

It doesn't appear to have cut-outs for the Front Facing camera and the sensors on the left of the speaker. Does it cover those? And does it matter if it does cover those?

I currently have the Zagg mainly because I got it for 40% off so I though it was worth the $7 to try it. It has the cutouts but I'm not sure if they are really needed for the sensor. I don't really want to cover the camera though.

thanks

I tried Zagg and hated the way it made the screen feel when using it. I really like the Boxwave Cleartouch Crystal screen protectors though. Easy to apply and if it wasn't for the cutouts, I would even know it was on the Evo. Super smooth and crystal clear. I then keep the Evo in a leather pouch belt case. The only downside is that the phone is naked and unprotected if you drop it while using it but otherwise, the case and screen protector keep it free from everyday bumps and scratches.

The glass screen is very fragile. After dropping it and breaking the screen, I bought a soft silicone case that at least may protect the corners.

It doesn't have cutouts and it doesn't need them. Image quality and light sensor are not effected by the protector. Once you get this protector you will see what I mean. There is absolutely no negative effects.

Personally I prefer the Seidio USG if you want a glossy screen guard. I think it feels more like glass, more like there's nothing there. But you can't go wrong either way.

Personally I love the feel of the Evo with nothing on it. I have tried the Barely there case, i liked it. the innocase II, that was ok but it added more bulk than i wanted... so i went with the Phantomskinz Black carbon fiber and LOVE the look and feel of the device. It adds no extra bulk and feels phenomenal. I too carry mine in a holster most times.

I use the zagg screen projector and it feels fine and I live it and you have a life time warrienty

I have not had a screen protector since Mid-July... (no case either) and I keep it either in my back pocket in my jeans or front pocket in dress pants... I set it in the cup holder in my car and have dropped it a few times.. My screen is flawless... The screen is amazingly durable.... I even let my 7 year old use it to play games and she has dropped it a few times and nothing.... the corners of my EVO are showing some signs of wear from going in and out of my pockets but the screen is flawless... not a single scratch after months and months of being naked...

I bought a holster when I first got the phone which worked at well. I then bought a cheap silicone case from Amazon and I would then put the phone in my pocket. I next bought a snap on hard case with a rubberized feel from Amazon (less than $4 with shipping).

So far this hard case is working the best for me. It adds very little to the phone but does make it easier to grip if you have big hands. It slides easily in and out of my pocket and I was able to find a horizontal holster that would accommodate it without having to take the case off. I get protection and the option to carry the phone how I want. With a screen protector all is good.

Of course I will need to scrap all of this when my extended battery (China from eBay) comes in as there are no ready made cases to handle the EVO with this type of battery. There are supposedly holsters and pouches though that should accommodate the phone but I have yet to find them.
