Why does CDMA phones take to long to updates vs the gsm ones? ( im thinking of the galaxy nexus )

Because of the carriers.... GSM Nexus isn't beholden to any carrier at least in the USA.

Its the radios that there protective of. Only carriers can test those files. Where as gsm can b tested at Google.

The carriers get to test and take as much time as they need to have the update ready before they release it.

Yup. It's their network, their license, etc.
