Change Your Notification Background

Not sure if everyone seen this. Found it over at alldroid and was easy and works great. You can change you notification background to other colors and have them transparent. Check it out. very easy i hope? looks easy enough, but i always get nervous when tweaking around with the framework. also, if this is able to be done through an app, couldnt the status bar color change also be done this way in theory?

EDIT: apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, but if i were to change the color.of my status bar/notifications menu, would that be undone by the 2.2 update. I am thisclose to doing it, but would rather only have to do it once and would prefer to avoid any possible complications with the froyo update.
