This is getting on my nerves...

Pixel 2 XL on Project Fi network. Every time I reboot the phone, I end up with these two notifications. Note that in today's version, they are now 17 days old (two days ago they were 15 days old, etc.).

Each time they appear, I tap on them and go through the motions of saying, "yes, that was me" but the next time I reboot they come back all over again.

Anyone else?

Hm .. I wonder if it is a Fi bug or a bug with 8.1 (If I recall correctly you're on the beta).

I am on Project Fi using the 2 XL as well and have the same issue each time I reboot. I do not have the 8.1 beta so I don't think it is related to that. Could indeed be a Fi bug.

Thanks fo this; glad to know I am not the only one.

Had it happen to me. I went through the prompts twice, but after that just swiped the notification away. Haven't seen it since.

I have the same issues, but with the 8.1 beta it went away thankfully.

My P2XL was delivered on October 20 and was running 8.0.0 for probably a week or more before the 8.1.0 beta became available.

Counting back 17 days from today, takes me back to the moment I swapped out my Pixel XL for the new Pixel 2 XL and the later installation of the 8.1.0 beta hasn't changed anything for me. Every reboot pops the same two notifications...

I thought to myself, can it really be that simple?

But, no.

I rebooted then waited for the two notifications to appear. Swiped them away (note: I have gone through the prompts numerous times already). Rebooted again. Sure enough, the notifications reappeared. Again. :(

Sounds like a Fi issue then. Hopefully Google can sort it out.

The product forum post seemed it indicate that it was not just a Fi issue, but offered no proof:

Well the guy admits it isn't "Fi in particular" but if you notice the one common factor is everyone seeing the issue is on Fi. Even the OP of that post is on Fi (look at the top left of his screenshots).

I am on Verizon and have yet to ever receive the prompt. This was back on 8.0 and now beta 8.1 w/ my 2 XL.

Don't disagree, but I was just pointing it out.

The only other thing I've found referencing it was this post, before the Pixel 2's came out:

https://softsolder.com/2017/09/22/google-pixel-xl-google-play-services-phone-number-update/

I've asked him if he was on Fi and am awaiting his response.

Yes, and the very last thing he says in that post is, "As it turned out, blowing away “the app data of the Google Play services” did the trick; the notification Went Away and hasn’t returned."

I am hesitant (because I don't want to have to deal with re-configuring any apps or losing stuff like game scores/levels completed), but will probably get around to trying it tomorrow.

Well, I took one for the team and can confirm that wiping out Google Play Services data fixes the problem.

Just means I now have to set up some configurations again....

Thanks for the info. I will get to it tomorrow. :)

Yes, that does seem to have fixed it...

Interesting that clearing Google Play data is the solution. You'd think it would be Project Fi app data or something that would be the culprit.

Yeah, but clearing Google Play Services data does force you to re-select your backup account and, I suppose, a few other things. So might all be interlinked.

And, by the way, I was also forced to re-authorize each of the credit cards previously added to Android Pay so, maybe, that will take care of the other problem?

All in all it wasn't too bad. The worst part was having to reset my Android Wear watches, but other than that choose a Back Up account, redo Android Pay and Trusted Devices wasn't so bad. I'm not much of a gamer so can't help much there...
