Changing Phone/Voicemail Settings

I recently started another thread about problems I'm having with Google voice conflicting with my voicemail box through my carrier. As I posted in the other thread, my N1 dials the US # I got when I set up Google Voice, rather than the retrieval number for my carrier voicemail box. I originally thought the problem was with GV on my N1 (hence the first thread), but now I think it's more likely a phone "app" (if that's the right thing to call it) problem, i.e. my phone app is configured to call the US # to retrieve voice messages and I am unable to change that configuration.

In particular, I cannot change it through the "voicemail service" item on the call settings menu. When I try to select "my carrier" as my voicemail service provider, I get an error message stating "forwarding number change unsuccessful. Please contact your carrier if this problem persists" (and I'm certain it's not a problem with my carrier for reasons set out in the other thread).

My question: is there some way to do a complete reset of phone settings that will delete the current configuration that causes my N1 to phone the US Google Voice #? For example, under "manage applications" on the settings menu, I see that "dialer", "dialer storage", "settings" and "settings storage" show up as "running apps" - if I were to "force stop" or "clear data" wrt any of these running apps, would that clear the phone config and (hopefully) solve my problem?

All responses much appreciated.

Do a complete factory reset of the phone. Then login to the google voice web site and remove your phone number fromm the settings and see if the phone reverts back to stock. That's the best I can think of at the top of my head.
