changing phones

I am getting a replacement today, what is the best way to swap everything to the new phone?

Root replacement first
backup everything
flash backup rom
activate replacement

will this transfer over everything, settings, messages, homescreens?

In theory it sounds right. Move the nandroid to the new, rooted device and restore it from recovery.

i've never done this because i have my original droid. but that seems like it will work.
1) make a backup of your old droid
2) root your new droid
3) Flash custom recovery
4) swap SD cards
5) then restore your old droid backup onto your new droid.

When you hold both droids, they should be identical.

thanks Cory, looks like this will have to wait, the replacement I got was had a defective slider so I sent it back, have to wait for another
