Charge vs. Thunderbolt

After a couple of days now with my charge i wanna lend my thoughts this is just my opinion and some things everone may not agree. ill start with this yes the galaxy s 2 is right around the corner, but im with verizon and wouldnt dream of changing and from what i can tell the GS2 is a GSM phone so verizon my not even get it. with that said the droid charge is a great phone for me its a showstopper beautiful screen, call quality is very clear and since i dont use touchwiz i cant pass judgement on it i just like the spb 3d shell better, battery is a big improvement from thunderbolt but keep in mind i cam from iphone 4 and i could forget to charge my iphone for almost 3 days and have battery left(not kidding) with 4g bright screen its still a big drainer to ME. at least with the charge i can go the whole day.

I will second that the call quality is very good and so is the battery life. I tried running spb shell and it was getting stuck on a black screen. Im glad its working for you I might just have to give it another shot.

I cant wait for verizon to start letting this babies rip. so all the devs can get their roms up and roming, a little CM7 wouldnt hurt. oh almost for got HDMI OUT is a pretty cool feature great apps to use with it are netflix, hbo go and even the samsung hub media thing because the droid charge comes with a 25$ certificate to use on either buying or renting movies tv shows etc.

I didnt make this thread to brag. i just noticed a lot a negative remarks throughout the net about the droid charge and i felt the least i could do is say some good things about it. not trying to debate it just wanted to say I made the right decision. So to all droid fans spread the word in your circles and let get it going. Now all i gotta do is sell this d$@* thunderbolt!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you need to convince us the charge is better, it just is. Being able to hdmi to a big screen is good perk.

I totally agree. The call quality is waaaay better than I ever could have imagined. I had lowered my expectations before I got the Charge and have been pleasantly surprised since. Crystal clear and very loud.

With the battery life too I've been very pleased so far. You shoulda seen me trying to kill the darn thing yesterday. I want to get threw a few full power cycles so I thought by turning everything on and just using the hell out of it I would burn through pretty quickly. Well it still took over 8 hours of heavy heavy use just to drain it. This thing will easily last all day under normal use.
I also bought the media dock. Its sweet and I love that it comes with an extra battery and even charges it too!

In one of the reviews that I read (can't remember which one), they said that when using the browser on websites that have lots of flash media in them that the screen freezes. Have either of you noticed this in your day to day use of the Charge? Is it a big deal or one that doesn't need to be worried about?

I have a Thunderbolt and am contemplating a switch for the better battery life and better screen. For those that have swithced from TB, how do you compare TouchWiz vs. Sense on the TB?

The browser does it on some sites but not all. A lot of the time it runs smoothly.

As for Touchwiz I love it but I will probably end up using spb shell. Sense has a lot of annoying additions. I don't like the sense browser. The one new one that I really hate is the recent apps on the notification bar. Samsung has added in several things like the task manager you get when you hold down the home button and being able to take a screenshot by holding back and pressing home.

How is the gps? Dunno if you have owned or know of the galaxy s gps quirks.
I have a fasc and well, its gotten a whole lot better since eclair, its still not great.

Any gps issues?

GPS is not instant like my Atrix was but it does work. It usually locks on in about 30 seconds or less.

In some reviews i've seen of the charge, I noticed that sometimes Touchwiz will lag going from screen to screen, especially when there are certain widgets on your pages. Knowing that spb shell 3d is much more graphics intensive, how smooth is that UI working? does it lag going from page to page? also, does spb shell 3d seem to drain the battery faster (compared to using the stock touchwiz ui) since it is more graphics intensive?

I am on the fence between the DCharge and DX2, 4G+Awesome screen vs 3G+Dual Core. I was wondering how much actual internal storage you got out of the box (factory reset) and if you have rooted did you remove any bloatware?

I am not afraid to get a single core processor nor do I live on Quadrant scores as my key decision maker. I want a phone that I can use for IM, txt, email, web, media, I have an iPod Touch and games are ok for time filler on the Charge. But too little internal storage and developer support are my concerns. I prefer not to rely on the mfg's to get me GB I will take a custom ROM over it.

spb shell runs a lot better then touchwiz. After installing around 40 apps i have .9 gigs left. It does come with a 32 gig sd card though.

If I get the charge rooting is first, bloatware is 2nd (you can pull about 250-300MB off) one thread would put the memory after debloating around 1.45Gb another would put it around 1.3GB, which is okay but not as great as the 2.31 on the ThunderBolt.

I am just looking to get a more clear number fresh out of the box and post rooting if someone does it. The phone is sick and HDMI out is great.

I only froze bloat and did not delete it so its still taking up space. Just incase I ran into issues and without recovery available I am playing it safe.

2 gigs of internal space does kind of make you think about having to manage your apps. cuz a LOT of apps out there aren't able to be moved to the SD card (unless you root the phone right?).

Most of the bigger apps like games and such have no problem being moved to the sd card. I don't see it being too much of a problem. With all the bloatware still on my phone and around 40 apps installed I still almost have a gig.
