Question..

When charging the EVO in the car....

Is it better to use a dedicated car charger???

or

a USB cable into a converter usb plug into the cig lighter??

Wonder wich one charges faster..

Reason asking.. Right now I have a usb cable that I plug the EVO into and then the usb cable plugs into an adapter that goes into the cig lighter..
When I do this the EVO says usb debugging at the top. It charges the phone. But when I use the usb cable/charger that came with the EVO and plug into the wall.... It doesn't say that.. Just curious.

Dedicated charger will always be better. And remember that it all depends on the output of the charger. Evo's take more juice than most other devices out so remember to check the outputs of the chargers before you buy.

This is what I have and recommend

High Output Car Charger

These high output ones have the same output as the OEM wall charger

$35 is outrageous for a car charger. You can find much cheaper deals online. Just make sure it has a micro-USB connector and outputs at least 1A.

You are exactly correct.

Reminds me of the Palm Pre rollout June '09. This Sprint store had an actual Palm tech (that's what his business card said anyway) present to answer technical questions. I asked him about the car charger. I had a Sprint OEM, but was only 500ma.
He told me I HAD to get the Palm car charger. When I asked why, he said "it'll fry your phone". I asked how, and he said it was too technical. After I told him I teach college level electronics, give me a shot. He scurried away and avoided eye contact.

I purchased the best buy brand car charger (rocket fish). Works great and charges quickly

The Verizon charger with the coiled cord that came with my Blackberry Bold 9650 (work cellphone) works great, and even has a USB port on the top so I can charge my headset at the same time. My nearly dead phone was charged well ahead of finishing my 2-hour drive from Chicago yesterday.

And it was playing video and audio podcasts the whole way while running Google Navigation.

yes - until you buy that cheap charger with the cheaply made micro USB connector which breaks your EVO's port and then you start biitching and complaining and crying and blaming HTC because you were cheap and tried to save a nickel to charge your $700 phone.

Exaggerate much?

EVO retails for $450 not $700.... Gekko you always over exaggerate things..

I agree. My pre charger works the best. By the way, I have a slightly used Evo car charger for sale.

Okay... so what i have been using was my old black berry curve usb data cable plugged into a usb power adapter. On the end that goes into my EVO. I had a rocketfish adapter from best buy that goes from mini usb to micro.
Dum dum me..(to excited about having my almost week old evo) forgot I should just use the damn bberry car charger with the adapter at the end to charge my evo.. tried it out when i got home from work... Duh. It works. No more usb debugging when plugged in. Maybe it will charge it faster now.

My Palm Pre charger works the best and it was $13. The Pre has the same 5V/1A draw as the EVO.
