Charging issues and PC connection problem.

Both of these problems started at the same time,a few months ago. First the charging issue...sometimes while charging it decides to stop charging at random. Sometimes it does it after a few minutes, other times it might take 15 minutes, and sometimes it works correctly and charges all the way. And if that wasn't bad enough, after it decides to quit charging it will drain the battery at a very accelerated rate, about 4x the normal rate if I had to guess. When it does charge to 100% correctly the accelerated drain does not happen. This behavior seems persist even when the phone is turned off.

The other problem is that PCs will not pick up the phone when its plugged in, BUT it will still charge. Once after having had the phone plugged into my PC for about 3 hours it randomly decided to show up. I have been unable to reproduce this. Same problem with 3 other PCs. No, debugging mode is not on.

The phone is rooted and was not updated to the latest official frimware.

Can a software issue be ruled out here given the problem persist with the phone off? Is there any hope for my poor Optimus :(

Mine does this as well, has for a while, but it has gotten much better. What I have found is that the usb port is very sensitive to the micro usb end's placement. Some cable's seat better than others with the Optimus. Try out some different chargers or different micro usb cables and see if that helps you any. Also, when the phone starts charging, set it down and don't mess with it, leave it still. My advice is to set it down with the screen off, then plug it in. See if the screen turns on and says Charging. If it does, leave it alone and let the screen time out it should keep charging. If you want to check it later on keep the phone still while you while you wake the screen.

I forgot to add that I have tried 4 different chargers and cables. Gilbequick, does yours have a problem connecting to a PC?

I've found you can get lint and dust in the charging port. Blasting it out with air, (or doing the old Nintendo "just blow in it!" thing) seems to help me. But it does seem super sensitive to cables and the like...find myself wishing we had mini-usb instead of micro..
