Does this phone activate the led when its charging? I get notification led lights but not for charging. Is anyone else getting this?

Right , I do not get the charging led either just a green LED that seems to be there for every type of notification or event. Previously I only saw a blue LED, I think it changed to green on the Beta 8.1 update.

No charging light for me , I do find Blink Light LED to be a bit on the weak side.

That's better than what I get. Mine has absolutely zero light when charging. It seems odd to me

Are you asking if it gives you a notification to tell you it's charging or are you asking is anyone getting their normal notifications while the phone is charging?

My LED lights up the same for notifications whether it's plugged in or not. I've honestly never heard of getting a light to tell you it's charging.

I use the app Light Manager and with that one you can set a color for when it's charging, when the battery is low or when it's done charging. I love this app because it lets me set colors for different notifications: Missed call, Text Message, Gmail for work or personal, Hangouts, etc.

I'm talking about a light to tell me it's charging. Both of my previous phones, Nexus 5 and OnePlus 3, had it

I love no bright green charging LED. On my last phone, at night I had to put it face down so the LED would not be lighting up the room. I tried to find and app to shut if off, found one but it messed with notification LED indicators.

It tells you on the lock screen if it is charging. Perfect.

If you have a AOD on it gives you a lightning bolt next to the time, I prefer a LED that I can see from across the room
Edit the lightning bolt does not turn off at full charge 100%

No, this phone is not supposed to light up an LED while charging. You can add that functionality with a third-party app, but stock the phone does not do that. The Nexus and pixel phones have not done it since at least before the 6p

Specific app seem to give specific color LED lights. For example, getting an SMS through the standard Google messaging app gives me a blue LED while getting a Facebook message through Facebook Messenger gives me a green LED, and Snapchat gives me a yellow LED

Nexus 5 does not have a charging LED. I still use both a Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 for doing app development, and they both have same LED functionality as Pixels and Nexus 5X / 6P - all have an RGB LED that, when enabled in the settings, simply slowly blinks white for notifications. But can be controlled via third party apps - e.g., custom blink rate and colors depending on the notifications.

EDIT: come to think of it, the N5 does blink it's red LED when plugged in and is fully discharged. Once it's charged up just enough to be powered on, the LED shuts off. Usually only a couple of minutes.

+1 for Light Manager. Nice app for customizing the LED colors. I have my phone show an solid orange LED when its charging and it's between 0% and 75%, then yellow from 75% to 100%, then green when fully charged. Blinking blue LED when I get a text message from Google Messenger, blinking light blue if I get a calendar / google assistant reminder, and blinking red when I have a missed call or a voice mail.

Another popular app (maybe even more popular, which is why I mention it) is "Light Flow", but I find that app to be overkill and its interface sometimes cumbersome... it also lets you customize notification sounds and vibrations so its interface is trying to do a whole lot. I find Light Manager to be much simpler to use, and it's been problem free for me - I've had issues with Light Flow on some phones, and don't bother with it it anymore.

I'm generally not a fan of such things, but another +1 for Light Manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koo.lightmanager). It worked well on my Pixel XL and is now working well on my Pixel 2 XL.
Thanks awesome application,
Not having good LED notification was my big complaint with the pixel 2, this closes that Gap charging any application different colors rate of flash everything.
I paid a $1.49for the pro version

Just a couple screen shots does so much, fully customizable for any color and speed for almost anything more.

Update just charged my phone Amber light during charging and green @ 100% could easily see light while on it's dock from across the room, also received missed call notification

What's the battery drain for that app running constantly in the background?

None that is noticeable and it never appears in the battery usage list. I unplugged by Pixel 2 XL nine and one-half hours ago and, according to the App info, battery usage has been "0% since last full charge".
