Charging with the included USB to USB-c; anywhere?

If I assume the included USB to USB C cable is good, and it is because it shipped with the Pixel, then can I charge my phone in any USB port without the phone pulling too much power and damaging itself or the device I plug it into? Can I even plug it into a generic car power adapter (5V 2A)? I don't want to blow up my phone.

If you have a good car charger that supports, it can support 9v2a and 5v3a so it will be fine. Your term "generic" makes me nervous though because sometimes random oems do weird things to chargers that those that account for specs properly can't anticipate. Example, Nexus 5X charger made by LG is fine for the Nexus 5X, but can be bad for other devices.

I tend to just trust the one that comes with it and order a second to keep at work so I'm not always having to pack it.
