Ok I installed Clean ROM 6 a while back. After spending a day figuring everything out I was an expert rooter and ROMer. Now I hear Clean Rom 7 is out and I want to upgrade and I forgot most of what I figured out back then. So first I need to brush up on the basics before I break something.

I know the first thing I need to do before upgrading a ROM is make sure the boot loader is unlocked (I am rooted). I made the mistake once of trying to install a ROM with a locked boot loader and spent a day or two trying to get my phone working again.

I had, or maybe have, a great app that allowed me to lock and unlock my boot loader with the push of a button. I am pretty sure I locked the boot loader after I installed Clean Rom 6. However for some reason I can't find that app on my phone.

To help start my project, two questions:

1. How do I check if my boot loader is unlocked or unlocked?

2. Does anyone know the name of the app that allows the quick locking and unlocking of a boot loader instantly on a rooted phone? I have no idea why I can't find it on my phone.

If you are currently running a custom ROM and custom Recovery.... Then your bootloader is unlocked
You will need to download the zip file and put it on the phone. Then boot into recovery mode and BACKUP first
Then wipe the cache and dalvik (facotry reset is up to you, if its the same ROM it will work without doing so... unless the OP said to do a clean install)
Then simply install zip and choose the one you just put on there.
And boom your done.

Ok, found the boot loader program, EZ-Unlock - should have re-read the instructions. For some reason I don't have it installed anymore.

Are you sure the boot loader ise unlocked? I am pretty sure I locked the boot loader after I installed Clean ROM 6.

You can try https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&token=f0OgmMyh if you don't want the hassle of using Odin on your PC to load a new ROM.

Or maybe GooManager: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&token=fkskES_x supports upgrading your ROM directly.

From what I remember https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...etails?id=com.mmmeff.ez.unlock&token=iUmrZIXi does a lousy job of showing the current bootloader status - it just shows it as "Unknown" (even the app Description says this).

Yes it showed unknown until I hit Unlock, then it said unlocked which worked just as well. When updated to Clean ROM 7 I forgot to will the Dalvik Cache etc... I believe that is called a dirty flash but it went smooth like butter. Anyway, the bonus of not doing the wipe is I didn't need to spend any time resetting up my phone how I like it except for re-adding some widgets I use. It was definately a painless ROM update.

I'll run with Clean ROM 7 until my phone is up for renewal in a year. By then there will be rumors of a Galaxy 5. However, I am not sure what more a phone could do more than a Galaxy 3 already does.

I must say, if I didn't know I upgraded to Clean ROM 7 from Clean Rom 6 I wouldn't notice a difference. Everything works exactly the same except for the new side pull out app bar that shows up in some apps. I assume that is a new Android thing.

Moral of the story, if phone is working fine and does everything it should do, don't waste time upgrading or switching your ROM - unless you just do it for the fun of doing it.

SEARCH FOR SECRET CODES FOR ANDROID DEVICES ON PLAYSTORE FOR FREE and find ur manufacturer for example sony--->Dial *#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration". If there is:
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked

Please note that you're in a Verizon forum, and Big Red has disabled all of those codes.
Thanks anyway.

If you're on Verizon those special codes won't work.

What is it that you're trying to unlock?
If it's the bootloader and you already have 4.3, just forget it.
If you're trying to unlock the phone so that it can be used on a different carrier, if you have 4.3 then just get the appropriate SIM card and follow the instructions of the carrier that you're moving to.
