My son lives in Canada and travels here 2 or 3 times a year. When here he pays about $100 for US roaming and 50 MB of data. So instead of using my upgrade for the Gnex I am thinking of adding a line for the phone, put the phone on my line and my Incredible on the new line. I will pay the $10 a month for the additional line and $30 a month when he is in the states. When he returns to Canada I would activate an older phone on the new line to cancel out the data charge. Pretty sure all of that is good.

But when I add a line will it change my unlimited data on my current lines or will the new 2/4 gig limit only apply to the new line?

When you add a line it doesn't affect other lines. Other lines will retain unlimited so long as you don't change their plans; only the new line will lack it.

However, when you sign up for the 4GB promotion, I believe it is LTE only. That means if you downgrade to a non-LTE phone (i.e. 3G smartphone or feature phone), you will lose the 4GB bonus for that line (and your microSIM card is forfeit).

Either you keep the 4G LTE phone activated at all times on the new line or you lose the promotional data.

I can live with that. 2 Gig beats the heck out of 50 megs when he visits.

He has Google Voice so he will not have to let everyone know of his new number

You have to keep paying the data every month if you keep a smartphone sitting on the line no matter what though so it will be the 10 plus the 30 all the time if you add your incredible so that is not a real savings to be honest. Just to let you know because it is a good idea until you realize they do not want you saving money lol

After my sons goes back to Canada I will activate on old Krzr on the line so the 30/month will go away.

Another idea is just to get him the Canadian HSPA+ Nexus. He should be able to activate that on a monthly basis with T-Mobile when he's in the states but be able to use it full time when he goes back to Canada. No bogus contracts to deal with and you will save more money this way while giving him a new primary device.

If you are using a LTE communication then you may loose data otherwise it will be same as your plan.LTE, is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals.
