Chrome browser keeps minimizing after each download

Hi.

Brand new member of the site; I registered with the hopes of finally the answer to a problem I’m experiencing lately with my Android phone…

Specifically, I have a Huawei Mate SE smartphone, running Android v. 8.0.0.

I’ve owned the phone for several years, but just over the last week or so, I’ve been experiencing a problem where any picture that I download from online (i.e. via my Chrome browser), the browser spontaneously minimizes. Chrome doesn’t necessarily close; I can still find it among my open app windows. But it’s as if the browser has to take a moment or two to “reset” …which I’m finding increasingly annoying.

Does this ring any bells to anyone? Does it sound like a cache issue that can be resolved by clearing? (If so, instructions on how to do so would be most appreciated.) …Or possibly by uninstalling and reinstalling the Chrome app. Either way, are any of these measures likely to cause me to lose my Bookmarks; History; Open tabs …or ‘All of the above’?

Would not exactly be the end of the world, per se, but it’s a scenario I’d like to avoid if I like to avoid, if anyone has any better suggestions, before I go poking around on my own.

Thanks,
Steve

Yeah try download test and maybe another browser?

Well, so I tried that - not sure what anybody's going to think if they ever find so many pictures of chicken cordon bleu on my phone - and... the problem [seemingly] is gone!

And - perhaps coincidentally, perhaps not - the camera and clock apps are working without a hitch as well.

...Leading me to wonder: Should I perhaps forget the Norton app and download some freebie, thinking it might work less obtrusively? Or (I realize you may or may not know), is there some relevant setting within the Norton app, such that I might be able to reinstall it yet change the setting to be "less aggressive" in scrutinizing my downloads (or something like that)?

It still perplexes me a bit that the minimizing problem went away for about a day, following a phone restart.

Still, maybe this something I should take up with Norton's tech support.

Open to any and all suggestions/recommendations...

Im not a fan of anti-virus ,app cleaners for this very reason they interfere with these things

Your welcome:)

OK, the plot thickens (as they say). Unfortunately some additional observations and experiences that lead me to believe something deeper is at play here…

Firstly, the download/minimize problem has returned yet again. And I have not installed Norton or any other antivirus/malware apps since talking with you all.

Second, this morning I found that I’m now having problems with my Phone app, itself. A call will be incoming, and I can see it on my screen, but I can’t answer it. I can, however, place a call successfully.

An update… OK, rebooting the unit does now enable me to answer incoming calls.

Weird.

…Is a factory reset [for my entire phone] looking like it’s going to be in my near future? Certainly I’m going to want to make sure I can back up everything before it comes to that.

I shall be awaiting your reply (however long it might take to digest this).

Thanks.

Sounds like a factory reset will be needed

After reading through your thread I would do a full factory reset. Back up your files and folders to the cloud I'd possible and do a clean install without restoring from backup as this can import problems back to your phone.

Kizzy's right.....if you're using the default settings most everything will be automatically backed up for you, so when you sign back into the phone everything will be there for you except your text messages. All emails, chrome favorites, passwords, all contacts, photos, files etc that is set to back up to Google drive will be there. Just check to make sure you have everything set to sync to Google drive, then turn your phone off and back on and it will sync automatically.

Unless you have your phone highly customized a factory reset is pretty straightforward.
