Chrome desktop performance

Anybody else use Chrome for their desktop and notice that the performance has been lackluster lately?

I recently picked up a laptop with an i3-2365M. It's not the most powerful of processors, with a 1.4 GHz dual core and HD3000 GPU. When trying to stream 1080p videos on Chrome, it lags and stutters badly. I thought it was just the processor at first, and I spent hours trying to troubleshoot the graphics settings, CPU, RAM, etc., but when I tried streaming on Firefox or IE, it streams just fine. No lag or stuttering, the streaming at 1080p is buttery smooth.

This isn't the first time I've noticed performance issues with Chrome. I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro, and when I set it up, initially I used Chrome, but the experience was just awful. Everything lagged, zooming and touch barely worked, and Flash videos and 1080p streaming was just laggy and stuttery. I switched to IE and all those problems went away.

So to me at least, it seems Chrome is not optimized for low powered devices. On a desktop Chrome works fine since the most basic of Haswell Celerons are powerful enough to power through it. But for low powered laptops or tablets, Chrome just doesn't work very well.

I have a lower end HP with Windows 8. The downside for me is the PC is not that great to begin with. IE sucked six ways to Sunday, and Chrome for me, at least is much better. Firefox was a little better, but the last I tried it, they still had a memory leak (causing the browser to crash).

Can you explain how IE sucked? Because from what I've experienced on my tablet, IE definitely uses less resources than Chrome.

Can you stream 1080p video from YouTube on Chrome on your HP? I'm curious, because the i3-2365M in my laptop just isn't capable of doing so - the CPU usage spikes up near 100% repeatedly when trying to stream a video from YouTube.

What processor do you have?

Using an AMD processor. IE lags horribly, constantly refreshes the webpage, constant requests to change my set up of add ons for an 'optimized' experience that does not improve anything.

That's interesting, I don't have any of those lag or refresh issues with IE on my Dell Venue 8 Pro, which has an Atom Z3740D, probably way less powerful than your AMD.

Chrome can't stream 1080p videos on the Atom Z3740D either, but IE works fine.
