My brother purchased the Toshiba Thrice 16GB from a local Fry's today. Along with one of the Official Toshiba cases. After unboxing it, setting up the tablet with his gmail account and placing the tablet in the case, we noticed the chrome piece around the cameras is already flaking off. I took 2 pics to show eveyone. He plans on taking it back to Fry's for a replacement. We'll see what happens next. View attachment 11615

Jeez that is disappointing to say the least. This is one tablet I would actually purchase but it looks like the quality control may be a bit iffy.

Can't anyone build an Android tablet that is issue free and fully baked??

I just picked mine up today at my local bestbuy,
I just checked out my chrome and its good so far. It feels very well built to me, the only thing I have noticed is the screen is not as slippery as others, not sure why, its almost like it has some type of coating over the screen.

Hitch

I purchased mine last Sunday and chrome still look fine.I really wish the chrome wasn't there to begin with.As far the screen goes I would like to know whats made of.

I just used some Monster brand, Screen clean that I had, it now feels slippery like all the other tablets

I picked up the Thrive yesterday (6/10). When I peeled off the protective film in the packaging, the chrome around the bezel peeled off with it. I thought about boxing it right back up and taking it back but decided to try it out for a while to see if anything else was wrong (in case I did not want a replacement). Everything else has worked great so I decided to ignore the cosmetic glitch.

Anyhow. Be careful as you remove the protective coating around the camera bezel. Maybe a bit of heat would soften the sticky material to permit it to release easier.

Yep - same thing happened to me. Peeling off the tape pulled a bunch off the 'chrome' off too! Not huge, but the whitish plastic underneath is kind of ugly. Plus it's like buying a new car with a scratch. Took it right back to BB and they were great ... exchanged without question. This time the tape was not over the camera bezel ... no worries, but I was still very careful. I feel bad for whomever has to sit there putting this tape on. But who uses scotch tape like that anymore? ... kinda kludgy - they should have a better solution - this is akin to the tape they use across the top of CD cases - remember those? ugh! Sounds like a minor QA problem. As long as that's the only problem ... I'm really happy otherwise.

Sure it isn't the thin protective plastic coating it shipped with? Mine had a 2 piece thin plastic sheet covering the chrome around the cameras.

Fry's ended up giving my brother a replacement as well. We took off teh plastic very carefully and so far.....no issues.
