This experience is the straw that broke the camel's back with me.
Long story short, I gave my mother the current Samsung Chromebook (XE303C12-A01US) to use during her visit with family in Lima, Peru.
Modern high rise apartment with stable Internet service (speeds unknown as I'm not there to check it & can't ask the neophytes to evaluate the speeds for me).
Anyway, Chromebook ... Hangouts app ... my mother starts the video chat ... at least 10 times ... every DAMN time, she is disconnected within 5 - 60 seconds.
The one not-a-total-neophyte in the apartment has an iPad ... installs Hangouts ... my mother starts the video chat, and it works WITHOUT DISCONNECTS for 10+ minutes.
Same afternoon.
Same apartment.
Same Internet service.
It worked.
Now I have to plan the acquisition of Apple gear as this situation will come up repeatedly over the next 20 years, and I'm sick of pissing money away on junk that won't actually work when it counts.
Convince me this isn't really happening.
