Hi There,

I've got my CC and bought "Star Trek - Into darkness" on Google Play Movies. At the shop page it says it has 5.1 audio. When i stream it with my Nexus 10 over my Chromecast my AV Receiver (Denon 1311) plays only Stereo audio. The CC is connected directly to the "Game" HDMI port of the AV Receiver.

What am I doing wrong? How to get 5.1 audio from Google Play Movies?

greetings

Some AV recievers are able to select what is broadcast by port. try plugging something you KNOW to be playing in 5.1 to that port and see if 5.1 comes through

What device are you casting from? I seem to recall someone mentioning when the CC first launched that the device used to cast MAY have some impact on stereo vs surround.

I am having a similar issue my TV passing 5.1 Channel Surround Sound to my Chromecast.

However my Roku which is also attached to my TV, 5.1 is passed just fine.

It is my understanding that the issue is related to EDID and for whatever reason my A/V source not indicating that it is capable of 5.1 Channel Surround Sound even though it is.

Does Google Play Movies broadcast 5.1 using Dolby Digital +? If so then your receiver may not be able to decode the 5.1 audio. I know Netflix (and supposedly HBO GO) use DD+ for broadcasting the 5.1 audio and you must have a receiver that can decode DD+.
