Cleaning Micro SD Card

Hi,

I just got a new phone, and while activating the phone I used my micro SD card from my old phone. Now I realize that the SD card probably has a lot of files on it that I really don't need.

Though I'm also afraid that I'll delete something I need. Since I want to free up my SD card and get rid of all the junk, what's the best way to do this? Do I just want to reformat my SD card or will that delete all the information stored from my new phone? Or since the phone is so new it doesn't matter what files are deleted (other than my contacts which are backed up).

I hope I make sense, all help is greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome to Android Central.

If you format the SD card on your new phone you will lose all data on it.

You should back up the data on your PC by copying the contents of the SD card. Then you should delete anything extraneous on the SD card whilst it is in the card reader on your PC before inserting it into the SD card slot on your new phone.

Please join as a member and let us know if that works.
