I forget what the exact name/model of the cover is that I bought for my Tab A, so I'm including a picture of it.

Anyway, it's got a canvas kind of feel to it and has gotten a little dirty. Any recommendations on how to clean it?

Unfortunately I don't have any direct experience cleaning a smart cover. However, I have seen various Youtube videos using water with laundry detergent powder to clean it. Regardless of your method, I would suggest testing a small corner to make sure there are no adverse effects with the cleaning supplies you choose to use.

I have that cover for my Tab A 8.0, called the Galaxy Tab A Book Cover. Very nice and protective cover. I keep it pretty clean with just a moistened paper towel. I suppose you could use a little liquid dishwashing soap for stubborn or oily dirt. The interior panel that comes in contact with the display screen should be kept really clean, which is difficult since that panel rotates to the outside and serves as the base when opened into its various standing modes. If it picks up any sand or abrasives it could scratch the screen. I use a moistened paper towel again, carefully wiping toward the edges and then allowing the panel to dry completely before closing.
