I'm having trouble flashing clockword mod using the ROM manager app. I am unlock and I know I am rooted still. So I am wondering if something is happening on CWM's end of things.

When I go into the app and tap the "flash clockword mod recovery" button, I get a small spinning circle near the top right of the screen like the phone is trying to do something. Normally at this point, I would get a prompt for CDMA or GSM.... but now I get nothing. The spinning circle then stops. Nothing happens.

Just wondering if this is happening to anyone else.

This is a huge problem for me, as I haven't used Root explorer or whatever to "fix" CWM to get it to be a permanent flash.

Any feedback and/or input is greatly appreciated.

EDIT - actually, you may need a few extra steps since you don't have perm root? read the full instructions here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392336 to gain root and cwm.

Or, dunno how you were trying to root, but if you were using wugs or something, you can start over and hopefully get it to go correctly. maybe you can elaborate on what steps you've taken so far.

you can flash cwm with adb and fastboot.

since you rooted i assume you have adb setup?

download the cwm file in this thread: [RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery *CDMA Edition* - xda-developers

it should be named this: recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img

turn usb debugging on in settings for your phone.

connect your phone to your computer via usb.

put that file in the same folder that contains fastboot on the cpu.

reboot the phone to fastboot mode (power off, power back on with vol down, vol up, and power held together).

in the terminal commands, type:

fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img

let it install, and when it's finished reboot the phone. you should have cwm.

Hmm, I guess I should have added that I've been unlocked and rooted since I got it in January.
I used wug's to root it and until today have been able to use Rom Manager to flash clockword mod before I went into recovery everytime I flashed a new ROM. I was just lazy and figured it was easier to flash CWM everytime before I went to flash a ROM than to go in and mess with file names/delete file names.

I have also unlocked and rooted my girlfriends HTC Evo 4g.
If she goes into Rom manager and tries to do the exact same thing (use the "flash CWM recovery" button) her phone produces the same result I am currently getting... no flashing of CWM.

I am just wondering if this is an issue on Clockwork Mod's end of things.

I know I have root. I know she has root. 100% certain.

Well, it's only on stock that you have to flash recovery EACH time you want to reboot to CWM. It's a safety precaution. If you've flashed a rom, you shouldnt have to flash recovery again.

Have you tried to manually enter recovery mode - by powering off, then power back on holding vol up + vol down + power at the same time, which takes you to fastboot, where you then navigate to 'recovery' with vol keys and select by pressing power?

If that works, you have cwm installed properly, and maybe it's the rom manager app that is acting up.

I only ever use rom manager to make backups bc i can name them. I also have the touch recovery (not the one by koush) installed, so when i manually boot it takes me to that version of cwm, not the regular version.

On the evo, not exaclty sure the button combination to get to recovery manually from powered off state, but if you google it you can find it quick i bet. That option exists on almost every android phone.

I would try that and see if it works out.

Button combo for getting to fastboot on evo is the same. Her's is permanent. I was just using it as sort of a "test" to see if it was only my device that the flash CWM button on Rom Manager was acting up.

I didnt realize that stock was the only time you had to always flash CWM before rebooting, I thought it was just a GNex thing that had to be done every time.

Are you sure about that? Just wondering :)

P.S. after reading recent reviews of Rom Manager on the Play store, Im seeing reviews where people are saying it wont flash CWM... Im inclineded to think that its a Rom Manager problem?

positive.

And i would guess it's a rom manager thing bc tonight alone there were like 4 threads about rom manager acting up. Maybe i'll mess around and see if i can recreate the problem.

As long as you can get into recovery manually, i wouldnt worry about it. And if it is a problem with RM, there wil probably be an update quickly to fix it since almost every rooted user on android has the app.
