Here's what I'm thinking.

We can unlock the boot loader and load up whatever we want, but doing so voids the warranty. I know we can re lock the boot loader but I'm wondering if when it's unlocked if it writes some kind of data to the radio that lets VZW/Moto know it was unlocked and the warranty is voided.

I'm hoping for a self contained root method that we can use to write a custom recovery, toggle security (somehow) and then flash a custom rom.

I really want to know if anything is updated when we unlock though..

Hmmm...that's possible, but I haven't heard of people having issues in the past with that sort of stuff. Quite frankly, I don't think Verizon even really checks. They just take it back, flash back to stock, run a quick diagnostic, then slap a refurb sticker on it and off it goes.

I hope so! I just hope my device doesn't have any issues.

I can kind of see their point though, we unlock, install a rooted rom, put setCPU on it to 35,000GHz and then take it in because it started a forest fire.
