Hi,

I am relatively new to the rooting scene, but not so new that, because I've had the time to play with a few different kernels on stock before I flashed to cyanogenmod 10.2 (latest nightly)...

Now I've had OK battery life with the kernel that CM comes with but I've wanted to try others.

I tried to flash Franco (latest nightly, both JSS and other version), Faux123, Matr1x V11 (JSS), and hells kernel if I remember correctly... All of which gave me the same problem! The screen would become inverted colors and would be very laggy. The only thing I could do on the device was navigate to the franco.kernel.updater and restore the CM Kernel..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure what is happening with the kernels but I can suggest trying out another ROM. The CM nightlies aren't as stable as the official ones so you might want to try out 10.1 :)
I personally use SlimBean 4.3.1 because the battery life is way better thanwhat I got with CM

Slimbean eh? I've been looking for a ROM that has excellent battery life! Using it with the stock kernel?

Yes. Screen still uses about the same amount of battery but the idle time is far better. Left it on overnight a couple days ago and it only drained 4% over 10 hours :)

The reason your screen become inverted because Cyanogenmod change their driver to CAF (Code Aurora Forum), which is not standard with other roms. So you need to either flash a CAF-compatible kernel or flash a deCAF package.

Tried most of the roms out there for this device and I agree Slimbean gives the best balance of customization and performance, I am using it with the hells core kernel right now with moderate use I get 2 days of battery and heavy use is day and a half
